Honoring the Feminine Cycle: Insights for Dominant Men
In this episode, we discuss an often-overlooked aspect of relationships: understanding and honoring the feminine cycle. In our society, women are frequently expected to conform to a 24-hour cycle similar to that of men. This expectation often overlooks the profound biological and hormonal changes women undergo throughout their roughly 28-day cycle. This conversation is an eye-opener about the importance of recognizing and honoring these cycles, not just for the women in our lives but also for ourselves as their partners. Andrew began this journey in the spring of 2020 by tracking his partner Dawn's menstrual cycle. Initially, his goal was practical: to plan vacations and other significant events around her period. However, this practice evolved into a comprehensive understanding of her physical and emotional states throughout the month. This meticulous tracking provided insights far beyond the timing of her period, revealing patterns in her mood, energy levels, libido, and more. Andrew's tracking methods started simply but became increasingly sophisticated. He began by noting the first day of Dawn’s period and the length of her cycles. Over time, he added details about her mood, rating it on a scale from 0 to 10, and even her basal body temperature, which helped predict ovulation and other hormonal shifts. Understanding her cycle brought a new level of compassion and empathy into their relationship. For instance, Andrew now plans Dawn's workouts based on her cycle, ensuring they are intense during her high-energy phases and gentler during her low-energy phases. This consideration has allowed Dawn to be kinder to herself and accept her body's natural fluctuations, improving her self-esteem and body image. One of the pitfalls Andrew and other men often fall into is trying to fix or level out their partner’s natural hormonal fluctuations, which is counterproductive. Instead, the goal should be enhancing the acceptance of these natural changes, thus fostering a healthier relationship dynamic. Society often imposes a solar cycle lifestyle—structured around a 24-hour day—that doesn’t fit the natural lunar cycle of women. In this episode, we advocate for a paradigm shift in how we view and honor these cycles both in personal relationships and societal structures. Understanding the feminine cycle is not just about making life convenient; it’s about fostering deep compassion, empathy, and ultimately, a stronger relationship. By being situationally aware and conscious of the phases women go through, we can lead with empathy and create environments that honor their natural rhythms. Andrew’s journey into tracking Dawn's cycle was transformative for both of them, and these insights hold potential benefits for any relationship. It allows for better planning, compassionate interactions, and a deeper understanding of one another.
The Conscious Dominance podcast was born from weekly conversations between two friends, Andrew & Eric.
Every week, we would connect and talk about the ways that our roles as Dominants in long term, loving Dominant/submissive relationships were calling us to higher integrity, and demanding the absolute best from each of us as men. And in those conversations, we realized how much other men might benefit from being let in on these conversations. So we started recording them for you.
